How is Empowered Learners different?

I provide support for my students from start to finish. I allow students to take complimentary diagnostic exams and hold a pre-prep consultation to assist students in determining whether the SAT or ACT is the right test for them. During our sessions, I focus on helping students strengthen their skills and build their confidence. I work side-by-side with students to model strategies and provide content instruction. I encourage open communication with parents throughout the prep, and I am always happy to send progress reports. After students take their exams, I will reach out to you to see how they did and am always willing to do a post-prep consultation.

how does scheduing work?

Once I have made a recommendation and we are ready to move forward with test prep, I will ask for the student’s availability leading up to the target test date. I schedule backwards from the test, so we don’t leave any gaps between our final session and test day. With the student’s availability, I will build a schedule that fits their needs and my availability. I will then send the schedule to be reviewed, and we are ready to get started.

What happens if I need to cancel a session?

Usually, nothing. If I am given at least three hours advance notice that a student will not be able to attend their scheduled session, there is no fee for a no-show or late call. With test prep, each session has specific content that needs to be covered, so I will send days and times for us to make up the cancelled session. If a student simply does not show up

Can i stop sessions at any time?

Yes. My goal is to make sure students have the best learning experience and find my teaching style conducive to their learning needs. If for whatever reason a student does not feel like this is the best fit for them, I do not hold anyone responsible for sessions that have not been attended. I do require that all attended sessions and materials be paid for at the termination of services.

How often do you schedule sessions?

I prefer to schedule SAT and ACT sessions once a week leading up to the target test date. This allows students time to complete assigned homework between sessions. For academic coaching and tutoring, sessions are based on the immediate needs of the student.

How do I get Started with test prep?

To get started with SAT or ACT prep, I will need to see student’s previous test scores - these include PSAT, SAT, or ACT scores. If students do not have previous test scores, I offer complimentary at-home diagnostic tests. I am happy to assist students with choosing the test that fits their abilities best. After looking at current scores, I will make a recommendation for the number of sessions we will need to cover strategies and review weaker content areas. Then, I will provide a recommendation outlining what we will cover during our sessions.

What can i expect from Empowered learners?

I strive my hardest to ensure that students will reach their goals. I am dedicated to seeing each student achieve the score that will allow them to acceptance into the college of their dreams. I plan and prepare for sessions, figuring out what concepts to cover and what homework to assign.

How does invoicing work?

Invoices are created at the beginning of the month, and I invoice for all sessions scheduled during the current month. The first invoice for SAT and ACT prep will also include the one time materials fee. I accept cash, check, and debit/credit cards, and I offer an auto pay option. I accept all major credit cards.

When should I take the SAT or ACT test?

Typically, the SAT is taken by juniors and seniors. It is best to take the test after or while taking Algebra 2. The SAT and ACT both test on Algebra 2 content, so it is best for students to have completed the course, or to be working their way through it when they take the test. Some sophomores also fit into that group and could think about starting their standardized test taking journey.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes, I offer virtual sessions. In order to begin virtual sessions, we will need to make sure students have their necessary materials. We can either start with an in-person session, meet up to exchange materials, or mail out materials, in the event that we are not close enough to meet up.
